Patna: In a huge relief to the security agencies, local zoo authorities finally captured an Agouti Husky from the tarmac of the Patna international airport ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state capital on October 14. The dog had been loitering inside the airport’s operational areas for the past week after it snuck out of the cage while being transported to Mumbai.

Reports said the dog, which was booked to be transported to Mumbai on a SpiceJet flight, managed to sneak out of its cage on October 4 after the shipment was mishandled.

Since then, it had evaded capturing by taking shelter in vital operational areas of the airport.

When the security liaison team of the Special Protection Group (SPG) entrusted with the security of the Prime Minister came to know about the case, they ordered the immediate capture of the dog, terming it as a major threat to his security, reports said.

Subsequently, airport authorities called on Patna zoo officials, who managed to locate the animal, tranquillise it and capture it on Tuesday evening.

“Our team has managed to capture the loitering dog after the airport authorities informed us about its unrestricted movement inside the operational area. The dog is famished and dehydrated but the doctors are treating it,” Patna zoo director Kanwaljeet Singh told the media today.

The dog’s capture has come as a major relief to security agencies ahead of the scheduled visit of the Prime Minister to Patna on Saturday for which security is been beefed up.

Modi is arriving to inaugurate the centenary celebration of Patna University, once known as the Oxford of the East, at the Patna Science college ground. The university was established by the British India government in 1917.
