Abu Dhabi The new Friday brunch at St Regis Corniche is a swanky affair.
As you enter you feel you are in a lively club scene and the décor adds to the glamour quotient.
But I must say the St Regis brunch, besides all its glamour, is equally about substance as it is about style. Iced mountains of lobsters, calamari and oysters that greet you at the entrance are indeed a tempting introduction. The bread corner on the side has the most amazing selection.
It is easy to get carried away as you navigate through a dozen food stalls. To start with, the salad bar looked more like an artwork with each veggie cut with precision and tastefully decorated.
There was a separate station for Arabic varieties. While enjoying the usual culprits, you may not want to miss out on the carrot and beetroot muttabal. This new tasty twist on this traditional cold salad left us craving for more.
The pasta corner and carving station were too vying for our attention. But we did not fall into the trap and ventured outside. Pleasant weather was definitely a reason. But the temptation from the barbecue station that doled out grilled squids, Gulf prawns, scallops and duck livers urged us to stay longer and enjoy the al fresco experience for much longer.
Back inside the restaurant, there was still more to try from the main courses. It was an eclectic mix with Phad Thai noodles, butter chicken and a few other tempting continental varieties.
If you believe the best things come last, then be ready for the sweet indulgence at the dessert corner. If decadence had a sweet side to it, it was right here. An entire room was set aside for the extravagant spread of sweets, cakes, mousse, macaroons, pastries, puddings, ice creams of every variety to meet your sweet cravings.
If there is one place where all the superlatives for style, indulgence and taste fit well, it is here at St. Regis.
