DUBAI: If you fancy a fine breakfast over newspapers, coffee, croissant and the best of French delicacies, sitting steps away from the cool blue sea waters, then Le Paradis du Fruit at the Beach, JBR is the place for you.

The more than three decade old establishment from Paris opened its doors in Dubai only this summer featuring not just famous French designer Phillippe Starck’s dernier cri and colourful chandeliers from Milan but also all of the ‘Frenchness’ it is known for. A case in point is their Paradis French Toast (Dh28) that’s caramelised with an orange sauce. Have it with their best seller Josephine Baker, the classy mocktail named after the American-born French dancer, singer, and actress who apparently loved this unique mango, passionfruit and coconut blend.

You may not have quite tasted something like their Mama salad (Dh58) as well. The healthy platter of smoked salmon, avocado, lamb, lettuce, mixed greens, mint spring onions, cherry tomatoes and two big slices of watermelon, served with yoghurt dressing and a slice of lemon, is sure to stir up your senses.

There’s novelty in their egg ala coquette (Dh44) as well. Cooked in the shell with runny yolk and served with breadsticks, the beauty is in its presentation. The one that wears the crown though is their Eden Paradis (Dh180 for two people), a giant selection of their best mains replete with sticks of prawn, salmon, chicken and beef skewers, medium done with freshly ground chilli and soy sauce. Grilled vegetables – including zucchini, bell pepper and egg plant served with dips of an egg plant caviar and a taramasalata (salted and cured roe of a cod fish) with blinis (pancakes) served with potato wedges, salad and toasted pita bread make it the best-rounded gourmet affair I have experienced in some time.

End it all with their amazing Valrohna hot chocolate (Dh21) and any of their desserts for that ultimate sense of fulfilment.
