You can feel it in the air, ‘tis the season to be stylish. As the festive period sets in and party invites fill up your calendar, there’s no excuse to be behind on the fashion front.
If you’re short of inspiration, The Directory has employed the help of Dubai-based menswear designer Varoin Marwah to give us a style guide, and illustrate some of them with his creations:
The essentials
“Navy blue, black or chocolate brown woollen jackets are a must-have this season. Also a well-fitted woven double-breasted coat is a wardrobe necessity since it is versatile and can be worn with multiple combinations”.
The prerequisite
“A clean-cut tuxedo in black or midnight blue is a keeper for a special occasion”.
The accompaniment: “Invest in a nice cardigan, they are a great way to add richness — for that casual stroll in the afternoon.”
The colours
“Go with shades of blue, maroon and green. Do not be afraid to try colours such as bright royal blues or deep reds or light olive greens as they complement the daytime atmosphere. If you have prefer staying within your comfort zone when it comes to colours, add some details like your belt, socks, pocket squares, cufflinks etc”
The fit
Clean cuts and slim fits are highly advisable for men. You are not going to be lifting weights in jackets, so do not be all about comfort. Be realistic with the fit!”
The accessories
“Do not overdo it in the accessories department. Wear a classic bracelet or a nice watch but avoid over-the-top flashy branded belts and shoes. Minimalism is always the key to a classy look. You could also add a pair of suspenders (braces). They give a very powerful impression and add a lot of visual weight to the entire look.
The pockets
“Never underestimate the power of your pocket. Add a pocket square to your classic jacket to add some flavour. These tiny details can completely change the impact of the outfit”.
The socks
“Try to add a different shade of socks to your formal look. If you are wearing a black suit with a blue tie try to coordinate the colour of your socks with the tie rather than going conventional with black socks”.
