Leg raise — Step 1

In this series — Weight loss with Yoga — we are understanding the science of yoga in such a way that it makes sense to a common person and can be used by everybody to solve their life’s issues. Most weight gain problems are a signal of some serious health issues lurking just around the corner. Weight is a red alert being called by the body to check the onslaught of disease.

Yoga postures and breathing can be beautifully networked to give you a sweat-pouring workout and when the time comes, the most restorative, relaxing and rejuvenating routines are interwoven to bring out the best results from you and your fitness regime. This puts you squarely back on the road to health.

GET THE YOGA WORKING

1 On your organs: Yoga is a superb toxin releaser. It pushes the toxins out of your liver and rids you of fluid retention thus lightening up your lymphatic system, boosting the function of liver and making it an efficient organ that processes good fat and glucose to give you energy while disposing of the bad fat. Yoga postures keep the liver working at its pinnacle.

2 Speed up the metabolism: A fat burning body is one that has good metabolism. To keep the metabolism chugging is the work of the endocrine glands. The practice of yoga is entirely focused on stimulating these glands to release the necessary hormones in the right quantities.

3 Alignment of the body: Most times in the race for weight loss something as crucial as body alignment or the health of the spine is compromised. This is a heavy and unnecessary price to pay. The science of yoga revolves around the optimum health of the spine. Trauma to joints and the bone structure is not the function of yoga. It knows how to pad and protect the body and yet get it to work towards its health and wellbeing. In fact, the yoga improves bone density because it uses two opposite sets of muscles, working against the force of gravity, in every posture. These exert pressure on the bones. The bones in turn deal with this pressure by thickening and increasing their density.

4 Calm the central nervous system: Yoga knows that a sound nervous system is the foundation of a healthy, well-balanced life, hence its keen grip on its workings. A stress prone system has a cascading effect on the body. It needs to be soothed and relaxed. Yoga reaches deep into the consciousness to release the stress and infuse rest into the innermost recesses of the brain.

Yoga is too diverse a science to be limited to a single discussion. But on your path to weight loss a few understandings are enough to reach you to your goals.
