Dubai Opera is all about big, theatrical gestures, which made it the perfect spot for one man to propose to his girlfriend this weekend.

James Robert Ham, who was visiting the UAE from the UK, waited until after a Jersey Boys performance on Saturday night to pop the question. He coordinated with the Dubai Opera team to book a private after the jukebox musical (Jersey Boys chronicles the life and times of American rock group the Four Seasons).

He then got down on one knee at the Majlis lounge and asked Karalynn Thomson to marry him. To make things sweeter, the four Jersey Boys serenaded the newly engaged pair with a private rendition of Beggin’.

This is the first proposal at the Dubai Opera since the venue opened its doors in August 2016, a media representative told Gulf News tabloid!.

The 2,000 capacity venue can be booked for private events and wedding dinners, though it’s unclear if Ham and Thomson will return for their big day.

“We wish Karalynn and James heartfelt congratulations on their engagement and are delighted to have celebrated a first proposal at Dubai Opera, perhaps music really is the food of love,” said Jasper Hope, the CEO of Dubai Opera.
