He shuttles between the UK and the UAE for deejaying gigs, but Don Corneille says it's the journey and not the destination that matters most.

"I am a musical connoisseur and not your ordinary DJ," says the DJ who has worked with artists like Rick Ross, Elephant Man, Mr Vegas, Tanya Stephens and Mims and has booming music-related businesses in the UAE.

Describing himself as an "easy and relaxed guy", Don Corneille says it is dancehall and reggae music that keep him inspired and grounded.

He loves working in Dubai and is eyeing to enter the radio industry. "I can't wait for us to get into mainstream radio, with hopefully a four-hour radio show," he says.

Ahead of his Jamaica Independence Day gig in Dubai, Don Corneille gives Gulf News rapid-fire answers to five questions:

How did you become a DJ?

My dad used to play a lot of Bob Marley songs so I developed a liking for music from a a tender age

What's your deejaying style?

I play mostly urban but specialising in reggae and dancehall

How do you keep yourself updated as a DJ?

By listening to A-list DJs like Rodigan, Funkmaster Flex and mixtapes. I also practise a lot.

Describe the Dubai music scene.

The music scene in dubai is evolving everyday. I really admire the way reggae and dancehall have grown in the past few years.

What's next for you?

Big things are coming up for Redemption, my sound system clothing line. Our partner is also starting an online radio station, which would be the first of its kind in the UAE. My new website is also coming up soon.
