Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams and New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert have announced their split, nearly a decade after getting together.

The pair had dated since 2008 and married in February of last year. They issued a joint statement on their separation on July 1.

“So much more goes into putting a statement together than anyone will ever see. There’s real life behind these black and white words,” it read. “Unfortunately, it all ends up looking the same. Like some publicity [expletive].”

The pair went on to state — “plainly, and only this time” — that they are splitting up.

“Marriage is not for the faint of heart. Love is an absolute risk.”

The two remain close friends, who are “good in each other’s eyes.”

Williams and Gilbert tied the knot last year during a small ceremony in Tennessee. True to their pop-rock roots, Gilbert donned a suit and sneakers. Williams wore a chiffon Vera Wang dress and Dr Martens, later changing into a white skirt and a T-shirt that read ‘Chad’.

They met at Warped Tour in 2007.

“The next year, we toured together in Europe and I couldn’t stay away from her. Fell in love then,” Gilbert said in 2015.

New Found Glory released their album Makes Me Sick in April. Paramore released their album After Laughter in May.

Hayley told music magazine Fader that some songs on the record, such as Forgiveness (“You hurt me bad this time/No coming back”) chronicled a rough patch with Gilbert.
