Ustad And The Divas
Sandesh Shandilya

In 2000, Sandesh Shandilya came up with Piya Basanti, a brilliant album pairing Ustad Sultan Khan and Chitra together. After a long hiatus comes this interesting follow-up album from the same composer where he presents Ustad with three reigning divas Chitra, Sunidhi Chouhan and Shreya Ghoshal.

Sultan Khan, the sarangi maestro-turned-singer, has a peculiar bass-heavy and gravelly voice which provides a contrasting, colourful backdrop to the sweet feminine voices. Amongst Ustad's partners, Chouhan seems to be his favourite as she gets three duets as oppossed to the other two singers. However, Ghoshal's Le Jaa Le Jaa Re, Chitra's Haaye Re and Chouhan's Billo are the highlights of this album. Shandilya's tunes are earthy. It is a well-composed, well-sung album. What is unacceptable is that rather than utilising the opportunity to create 10 original tunes, the composer opts to fill up the album with four remixes of already featured songs.

Indian Flava
Various Artistes
Bringing typical Indian musical flavour to the party is this well-compiled album. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's Tere Bin Nahin Lagda, Reshma's Lambi Judaai, Himesh Reshammiya's Aap Ki Khatir, Rabbi Shergill's Bulla Ki Jaana and Abida Parveen's Sohna Sajan lend a Sufi flavour to the proceedings. Bombay Viking's Jambola, Kailash Kher's O Re Maanjhi and Prem Joshua's Bombay Railways provide ample variety too.

Signature Series 02
Shahrukh Khan

Getting good songs to lip-synch has certainly helped Shah Rukh Khan clinch the coveted 'Badshah (King) Khan' sobriquet. This album puts together some enjoyable hits featuring Khan in the videos such as Main Yahan Hoon (Veer Zaara), Har Ghadi Badal Rahi Hai (Kal Ho Na Ho), Khamoshiyan Gungunane Lagi (One Two Ka Four) and Bholi Si Surat (Dil To Paagal Hai).

Vanilla Chilled
Various artistes

Even though the selection is a tad patchy, this compilation still manages to present quite a few pleasant numbers sung by various artistes. The album includes Shaan and Sunidhi Chouhan's Keh Do Na (Aap Ki Khatir), Shaan and Shreya Ghoshal's Chhua Mere Dil Ko (Game), Asha Bhosle's Lamha Lamha Zindagi Hai (Corporate) and Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghoshal's Mujhe Haq Hai (Vivah).
