Iconic British band Gorillaz is set to return to Dubai as the headliners of this year’s Fiesta De Los Muertos on October 27 at Dubai Autism Rocks Arena. The band was last in Dubai in 2010.

The Halloween-themed festival, now in its second year, will also welcome Lebanese-Canadian R&B star Massari and Mexican musicians, The Mariachis.

“We have shortlisted the artists targeting different age groups and genres of music so there is something for everyone. We will be announcing more top artists for this year’s Fiesta soon and I urge fans to get their tickets now and start thinking of what to wear for this spooky and wonderfully scary night in October,” said Thomas Ovesen, CEO of 117Live, the organisers behind the event.

The Gorillaz, an eclectic virtual band, are known for their visual storytelling component as much as their music. Led by Damon Albarn of Blur and comic book artist Jamie Hewlett, the band consists of four animated members — 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Russel Hobbs and Noodle. In 2001, the band released a debut self-titled album, and became the Most Successful Virtual Band ever according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

They released their fifth and latest album, Humanz, in April, six years after their previous record.

Massari, known for songs such as Smile For Me, said he is “so excited to perform at Fiesta De Los Muertos this Halloween, [shout out] to all my Middle Eastern fans.”

The Mariachis, who are known for their crowd-pleasing, cross-genre covers and fanciful costumes, will return to warm the crowd up this year once again.

“Amazing experience performing at Fiesta De Los Muertos last year. Can’t wait to get back to Dubai to join this year’s line-up,” they said.

Last year’s line-up also included DNCE, Major Lazer and All Saints.

Tickets for Fiesta De Los Muertos are Dh350-Dh995, available online.
