By Emiratis for Emiratis

Dubai fragrance brand Ajmal has crafted two perfumes through what it calls a ‘community initiative’ involving young Emiratis from different walks of life helping in its creation.

Called Qafiya 01 (Spicy Floral) and 02 (Fresh Spicy), the for-Emiratis-by-Emiratis fragrances took more than 21 months to craft. The bottles’ design was inspired by dhows and the light-brown colour of the packaging is a match to the colour of desert sand. They are now available for Dh250 each. Call 04-3399303.

Make your own shoe

Salvatore Ferragamo has launched a customisable shoe programme called Tramezza Made to Order. Named after the brand’s traditional handicrafting process, the method involves a thick layer of leather (as opposed to more widely used cork) being sandwiched between the insole and the sole, like a cushion. The name of this extra sole is tramezza — literally meaning ‘something in-between’ — and is supposed to offer long-lasting form, comfort, and perfect bonding of sole and upper. The highly-complex construction process required numerous hours by an expert shoemaker and over four days shaping of the upper to last. To find out more, go to ferragamo.com.
