It was a glittering weekend in Lahore with the country’s top fashion designers coming out in full force for the Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC) two-day PFDC L’Oreal Paris Bridal Week 2017, which concluded on October 16.

More than 60 bridal and couture designers showcased the best of both, contemporary and traditional Pakistani bridal wear, along with make-up trends.

ALI XEESHAN’S FANTASY WEDDING

Luxurious drapes, embroidered skirts and long coats draped models, with jewel-encrusted dresses and even glasses taking centre stage at the event.

Designer Ali Xeeshan and his fantasy wedding saw models cascade down the runway in glittering gowns, complete with retro-infused props to complete the dream sequence — think retro, beaded glasses, large frilled umbrellas and a giant canvas painting that needed two hands to carry it down the ramp.

CELEBRITY SHOWSTOPPERS

It seems like Pakistan’s burgeoning fashion industry has taken a cue from the various shows held across the border that routinely bring top Bollywood stars out on the runway.

Today, we don’t have a fashion show that doesn’t feature a local film/TV and music celebrity.

The Bridal Week was witness to the same trend. It featured Humaima Malik looking like a million bucks as a showstopper for designer Shamsha Hashwani, despite the extra weight that she has put on for her character in director Bilal Lashari’s remake of Maula Jutt (1979). There was also Resham, from good old Lollywood, walking the ramp for Reama Malik and Wasim Khan’s collaborative jewellery collection, titled Gold.

The event also featured actor-producer Hareem Farooq, looking like royalty in a Faiza Saqlain outfit, while Armeena Rana Khan in red walked for Misha Lakhani.
