Designer Rodricks was on a mission to smash stereotypes at the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai with his latest collection from his plus-size label, all Primero.

Who said black is slimming, while white isn’t? In the next few minutes, he demonstrated through flowing capes, flattering silhouettes and innovative drapes that defining beauty standards is limiting and body positivity is now in vogue.

Chirpy models (regular plus-sized people who were hand-picked through auditions) wore a smile on their sleeves and didn’t bother to hide the jiggle of their arms or thighs as they paraded his drape-dominated collection.

Body acceptance and the immense possibilities in dressing a plus-sized women and men were explored through silky materials.

Bright colours such as lime green, blue, fuchsia and white were used in abundance and free-flowing capes, asymmetrical hemlines and swathes with minimal embellishments made it to the runway.

Some of the robe-style kaftans had heart-shaped glittering brooches, perhaps to underline Rodrick’s ’love yourself and your body’ fashion philosophy.

For once, the models looked comfortable and didn’t sport a grim look on their faces. Armed with smiles, a convivial atmosphere was created as models wore clothes that seemed to placed comfort over trends. One-shouldered Grecian-styled dresses and tailored jackets for men were the highlights.
