New Delhi: Gaurav Gupta brought his futuristic approach to the India Couture Week catwalk on Saturday, with patterns inspired by fluid structures of frozen waves in a collection titled “Scape Song”

“The initial inspiration was Game of Thrones, but then came in referrals from Greek, Roman, Indian and English cultures and I tried to twist and take it to a new level. The whole collection is a mixture of modern architectural forms and vintage patterns,” the designer said.

The brand’s indigenous techniques of futuristic boning, sculpting and Indian baroque came into play with dripping pearls and galactic crystals adding on the feminine finesse.

Swirls of organza were used throughout the range for creating water scales and whirling roses.

The collection showcased a glamorous line of modern Indian gowns, draped saris, styled with unusual jackets and sari lehengas, multilayered skirts with sculpted corseted blouses.

“The collection gives out a global message that India is very much a part of the globe and is the leading global country. It’s a statement collection of contemporary, almost futuristic new Indian wear. All of us are well travelled global citizens, but at the same time we enjoy the Indian-ness,” Gupta told IANS.

Actress Saiyami Kher, who makes her Bollywood debut in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirziya, made her catwalk debut at the show in a gown the colour of the deep blue sea, with Gupta’s edgy-yet-feminine boned shoulder pattern and glittery eye make-up.

“I am walking on ramp for the first time. I have done various photoshoots in the past, but this experience is totally different. I was very excited as I have never looked so beautiful before. All these models are so beautiful and I was nervous as I had to match them. We were practicing the walk backstage,” Kher said.

Although her platform sandals came apart, the actress continued to walk with confidence.
