Emily Ratajkowski, 24, shot to fame as the playful and scandalously bare brunette in Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines music video, but she has been earning her marks on the silver screen ever since. After supporting roles in Gone Girl and this summer’s Entourage, Ratajkowski will star opposite Zac Efron in We Are Your Friends, out in the UAE on August 27. Raised in the San Diego area, she now lives in Los Angeles. She talks about her personal care regimen.

Skin care

I have the same skin care routine morning and night, although I’m not one of those people who always uses the same products. My skin changes with the weather. Right now, I’m using Kiehl’s Calendula Foaming Face Wash. Then I put on moisturiser. By Terry Cellularose Baume d’Eau is great. A lot of moisturisers, they don’t absorb into your skin quickly enough, but this one seeps in right away. I also like Sisley Hydra-Global. It smells so good. If I need make-up remover, I use this L’Oreal eye makeup remover that my mum introduced me to years ago. At night, I might add the Sisley Black Rose Precious Face Oil, which is also about the smell: this gorgeous rose.

When I’m travelling, I’ll bring along my Glossier Mega Greens Galaxy Pack. It’s a mask, and I put it on after a flight. When I get to the hotel, I put it on for 20 minutes, and my skin feels so much better. Here’s another of my favourites: If it’s a long flight, I’ll wash my face before sleeping and put on Sisley Express Flower Gel. It’s a mask that you don’t have to wash off. It’s perfect for the plane.

Make-up

I have really big features, so a little makeup goes a long way. I would hate to look like a clown. During the day, I use Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint. I’m using the dark colour because I have a bit of a tan. I’m not sure it really covers much, but it evens me out. Then I use Charlotte Tilbury mascara and cream blush. Charlotte provided all the makeup for We Are Your Friends, so that’s how I got to try her products. Then I put Aquaphor on my lips, or I might mix it with Charlotte’s Bond Girl lipstick so there’s some definition. I have really pale lips; people always think I’m wearing nude lipstick.

If I have a meeting or need to look more done up, the thing I can always do is a cat eye. I like the Revlon Colorstay liner. I have a comb for my eyebrows that I spray with Elnett. And I’m really loving Charlotte’s Filmstar Bronze & Glow, which has a highlighter and a contour shade. I only use the highlighter, though. I put it on the top of my cheekbones, down the line of my nose and my Cupid’s bow. I’m not big on contouring. My features are really out there already.

Fragrance

I actually don’t wear fragrance. I always feel like I smell cheap. I guess I just haven’t found one that’s not overpowering or too sweet. Even when I try one of the super masculine scents, I just think, “I don’t want to smell like a man.” Besides, I like my own scent.

Hair

Right now I’m kind of in between shampoos and conditioners. I was just in Positano, Italy, for vacation and stayed at a place called Le Sirenuse. They have their own shampoo and conditioner, and I took home four bottles. They smell amazing. I’m going to have to reorder.

I put my hair up maybe half the time, parted down the middle and maybe slicked, Dolce & Gabbana style. When my hair is down, it’s very straight. I try to add a little volume with Bumble and Bumble dry shampoo. Sometimes I curl the ends and maybe a little around the back of the head so it has a bit of volume. It usually falls quickly, but it’s nice to try. I like my Conair Magic Wand. It’s a drugstore find.

Other services

I’m pretty terrified of facials. I’ve had enough bad ones, and honestly, I don’t break out. My big treat is that once a month I go to a Korean spa. The one I go to, called Natura, is not as popular as the ones most of Hollywood goes to. I usually go about 40 minutes before my appointment, and you can get into all these different pools. Then you get a body scrub, and you’re lying there naked with 20 other women. They just treat you like a piece of meat, but it’s worth it. Then you shower, and I like the acupressure massage. Those ladies are strong! They even put grated cucumber on your face.

I do have to warn: It’s not your traditional spa. There is no one greeting you and asking how your day is. But that’s what I love about it. I let my mind shut off and have someone take care of what needs to be done. Afterward, my skin is so soft, and I always sleep so well that night.

Diet and fitness

For me, it’s about feeling good about what you eat. I do love turmeric and beet juices. It’s so LA, you can’t avoid it. But I don’t have a trainer, and I don’t really go to the gym. I go on long walks and hikes with my girlfriends. That’s about it. I’m just not a crazy fitness person. I’m definitely an outlier in the industry.
