Taking care of hair always seems to involve rich, nourishing oils. What if you could get the benefits of 21 oils in one go? Jam Beauty Lounge offers just this with its Ayurvedic hair treatment.
This salon in Garhoud is unique as it only uses natural hair, nail and face products in its treatments and the owner Jyothi is very serious about it — she jokingly grimaced when I told her that I used Dove shampoo. But she promised that she would bring me to the organic side with her handmade treatment.
My therapist first applied peppermint oil only my scalp, which had an instant cooling effect. This was especially refreshing since I had just gotten indoors from the sun. She gently rubbed into my scalp, preparing it for the main attraction — the concoction of 21 oils and seven herbs.
I was expecting this part to be very greasy and heavy, so I was surprised to see the that the oil that was going to be used was in a small glass vial, not a bigger container. But a little does go a long way, which I was going to find out.
The treatment oil, which was earlier warmed in a hot water bath, was thoroughly massaged into my scalp — sometimes vigorously — which was so relaxing I almost fell asleep.
After this, a homemade hair mask was smoothed over my hair. The mask contains herbs such as fenugreek and neem, and has a strong earthy smell that no packaged product could ever have — a testimony to the fresh and organic mantra of the salon. After sitting for while with my wrapped head under a steamer, a sulphate-free shampoo and condition was used to wash off the mask.
As for results, the biggest change was in my hair fall. The first time I washed my hair after the treatment, I had markedly fewer strands coming off in my hand. My hair is also much softer than before. I suspect that the treatment would need to be done regularly to get the full effect of the ingredients. I can definitely say that I will be back for more.
