If you want to feel the rush of buying a new item of make-up, but without the monetary consequences, then The Beauty Beat has your back. Here are our top picks for great make-up at a bargain.

Pretty by Flormar blush in Rosy Bronze

This baked blush (from a supremely underrated brand) is simply gorgeous — a multi-dimensional, rippled mix of pinks and bronze that will act as both a blush and a highlighter. The colour is universal flattering and according to the brand the blush will offer a dewy but natural look to the skin. (Dh49)

NYX Professional MakeUp palette in Adorable

I don’t know many brands that offer six eyeshadows for this low a price, and this is why we love Nyx. The reddish and neutral colours for this particular palette are brilliant for autumn and winter (whenever it decides to roll into town). It is to be expected that the quality may not be as good as a more expensive palette, so it would make a good addition to a beginner’s make-up collection. (Dh45)

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate in 107

I’ve always been a fan of Rimmel lipsticks and constantly recommend them to friends. One of my favourites is a deep berry shade perfect for the season. It’s a matte vampy shade that will work with all skin tones. (Dh45)

Wet n Wild Photo Focus Concealer

A new launch from the budget beauty brand, this concealer claims to prevent the whitish look that is often seen in photographs, especially when flash is used. That’s all well and good, but the price point is the main attraction for us. Unfortunately, there are just four shades (mostly for fairer skins). As a dark-skinned girl, I would use this to brighten the under-eye area and those pesky dark areas around the mouth. (Dh29)

Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner

As a teen who wanted very much to be an emo kid, this was my go-to black eyeliner. It’s a super dark black that applies like butter and is easy to smudge out if needed. It doesn’t move around too much, despite its creamy texture, and would make an excellent base for a smokey eyeshadow look... or an emo one, if you’re still in that phase. It comes in multiple colours as well. (Dh42)
