A new star-studded sporting event is coming to town, under the patronage of the Dubai Sports Council. Dubbed the Dubai Celebrity Smash, it’s all set to kick off on October 16 with its first event: the Dubai Celebrity Golf Tournament.

Actors Dennis Quaid, Don Johnson, Ron Perlman and Kevin Sorbo are a few of the names confirmed to participate in the programme, although the details of what they will be doing was not available on Wednesday. Details of admission and locations were also not announced by organisers Iconic Events.

The kick-off golf tournament will take place over two days. Each day will allow ten teams, featuring four players each, to play. Each team will have a famous leader, ultimately allowing 60 non-famous players to play with a known personality.

As well as golf, the event will feature karting, paintball, volleyball, football, rugby and basketball. Ten celebrities from the film and sports industries will attend.

According to the event website, “NBA players, actors, musicians, athletes” and more will attend the basketball tournament, while “some of the world’s best football players” participate in the elimination-style footballing tournament. As for tennis, 24 amateur players will either be invited to, or purchase the opportunity to, pair up with a celebrity. This tournament will also feature “Hollywood and Bollywood notables”.

According to the press release, the events are designed to bridge the gap between sports fans in the UAE and celebs, as well as highlight local charities and foundations, such as Make a Wish Foundation UAE. They also aim to promote fitness amongst all age groups.

“Dubai Sports Council is pleased to add this new era of celebrity sport tourism to the Dubai events calendar. We look forward to a positively busy schedule, celebrity endorsement and involvement, and great participation from the public,” said Saeed Hareb, the Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, in a press release.
