With her fourth Malayalam film, Welcome to Central Jail, out in the UAE now, actress Vedhika is now more than comfortable with the language.

The Paradesi actress proved her mettle in her last Malayalam film, James and Alice, in a role that called for intense emotions as Prithviraj’s on-screen wife.

Welcome to Central Jail is Vedhika’s second film with Dileep (she had worked with the star earlier in Sringaravelan).

In this Sundar Dass-directed film, Dileep plays Unnikuttan, who considers a jail his home, since he was born there.

He finds the slightest pretext to get onto the wrong side of the law solely to return to jail. Out on parole, Unnikuttan bumps into Radhika (Vedhika), a photographer, and love blooms.

“Now Unnikuttan tries not to get himself arrested so that he can be with his love,” says Vedhika.

“After doing a serious role like Alice, playing Radhika was lighter. Besides with Dileep in the lead, this story promises laughs. His comic timings are perfect and it was fun.”

Vedhika’s career got a push soon after the release of Tamil film Bala, where her portrayal of Angamma won acclaim. Her next Tamil film, Kavya Thalaivan, reinforced the performer in her. Vedhika considers her role in Kannada film Shivalinga the most challenging one in her career. Shivalinga was directed by noted filmmaker P. Vasu.

In that crime thriller, Vedhika played Satya, a free-spirited young woman who is possessed by a ghost.

“I even had few stunt sequences in Shivalinga”, said Vedhika who is presently working on Tamil film, Vinodhan.

“It’s a youthful film and centred around a health disorder. My character grows from a schoolgirl to a college-going woman.”

She is also in talks for another film in Malayalam and in Kannada.
