Nivetha Pethuraj is not only juggling between sets and characters, but is also living out of suitcases. Pethuraj, who was crowned Miss India UAE 2015, is in Chennai from the Fiji Islands, where she was shooting for Venkat Prabhu’s next film, Party. She has also wrapped up her first Telugu film and working on another Tamil film, Tik Tik Tik.

Pethuraj’s second film, Podhuvaga Emmanasu Thangam (PET), directed by debutant Thalapathi Prabhu, is ready for release.

PET is a family entertainer says Prabhu, who assisted directors Vikraman and Ponram before going solo.

Set in a village, this story is centred around two men, Ganesh and Oothukaattan.

Ganesh is an unemployed young man who is keen on working for the betterment of his village while Oothukaatan, a self-obsessed older man, is interested in highlighting his own image.

Caught between these two men is Leelavathi, a young woman who has been trying to pass her high school exams for the past four years.

Prabhu, who hails from Achampatty village (Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu), says life in villages has changed and values that existed in the past have become irrelevant.

The title (which translates to ‘Generally my heart is of gold’) of the film refers to the good natured Ganesh.

Udhayanidhi Stalin plays Ganesh and actor-director Parthiban is Oothukaattan.

“Leelavathi is a simple and innocent village girl,” says Pethuraj of her role. “She is the opposite of Kavya the IT professional from Oru Naal Koothu.”

With comedian Soori playing Tiger Pandi Ganesh’s buddy, you can expect laugh aloud moments.

Podhuvaga Emmanasu Thangam releases in the UAE on August 10.
