Tamil film Sila Samayangalil, directed by Malayalam director Priyadarshan, has been selected for screening at the 74th Annual Golden Globes on October 6.

It becomes the first Tamil and only Indian film to debut at the event.

At a press meet held in Chennai, Priyadarshan said Sila Samayangalil is not a commercial film. “There are no songs and dances. All we have is great acting and a good subject.”

Ilaiyaraaja has done the background score.

“There are two methods of filmmaking,” said Priyadarshan.

“One is making a film from our brain to cater to the gallery and the second is making a film from our heart, that we make it for ourselves. After Kanchivaram, Sila Samayangalil is the second film that I made from my heart.”

Sila Samayangalil deals with the subject of AIDS and features Prakash Raj, Shriya Reddy and Ashok Selvan in lead roles. Raj and Reddy worked on Kanchivaram, which won an Indian national award.

Sila Samayangalil is jointly produced by Prabhu Deva Studios and Think Big Studios, director Vijay’s banner.
