What happens when a family visits a temple to make an offering of their goat?
Newcomer Suresh Sangiah’s Tamil comedy drama Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu is centred around this plot and has impressed viewers at a few film festivals including the New York Indian Film Festival.
Sangiah who hails from a village in the Rajapalayam district says that his story grew from his experiences growing up.
“In villages, the entire family, including the extended family members, accompanied you to the temple and that brings in a lot of positive energy. Sadly it’s missing today in towns and nuclear families,” he said.
Sangiah’s film follows a goat that is being reared for an offering to the family deity. Vidharth plays Ramamurthy, a new bridegroom. Dubbing artist Raveena Ravi (who has dubbed for Amala Paul, Amy Jackson, Samantha and Nayanthara) marks her acting debut with OKKM. She is Sita, the new bride.
“Ramamurthy’s grandmother promised a goat to be offered to the deity once her grandson was married,” said Sangiah, former assistant of award winning director, M. Manikandan (of Kaakka Muttai fame).
What happens on the large family’s journey to the temple is told with humour.
