This year’s Onam releases arrived at Indian theatres well ahead of the harvest festival in Kerala.

Directors Jeethu Joseph’s Oozham and Priyadarshan’s Oppam were the first releases on September 8.

Kunchako Boban produced Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho and directed by Siddhartha Siva followed on June 9. Bringing up the rear on September 10 was the Dileep film, Welcome to Central Jail.

While Oozham is a revenge drama with Prithviraj in the lead, Oppam is an investigative thriller with Mohan Lal playing a visually challenged lift operator of an apartment complex.

Joseph of Drishyam fame said that Oozham does not carry a suspense element as in his earlier film, but is a story focusing on the bond between a brother and sister. Besides Prithviraj, the supporting cast includes Neeraj Madhav, Divya Pillai and Rasna.

Oppam brings back the duo Priyadarshan and Mohan Lal, who are known for their successful films. Anusree, Nedumudi Venu, Chemban Vinod Jose and Tamil actor Samuthrakani form the supporting cast.

Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho, a family entertainer, is about Kochavva, a village man, whose life is inspired by Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist.

Earlier this film made news when Coelho shared the first look poster of the film. Kunchako Boban plays the lead with newcomer child artist Rudraksh.

Dileep’s Welcome to Central Jail, directed by Sundar Dass, is touted as a total comedy. Vedhika is paired opposite Dileep.
