Locking horns with Dhanush’s Kodi this Diwali weekend is Karthi’s Kaashmora, a fantasy film directed by Gokul.

Kaashmora’s trailer revealed two different looks for Karthi. The star’s bald-headed warrior and cool guy are both intriguing.

“Karthi’s warrior look is that of an army chieftain, Raj Naik, who is fearless,” says Gokul.

The second character is a black magician.

There is a third look, according to Gokul, but that’s under wraps.

Kaashmora is a multiple-genre film that travels between horror and fantasy, and history and present times,” he adds.

There are lots of laugh-out-loud moments too, says the director of comedy Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumar.

“Usually, during the transition from writing to celluloid, the story’s narrative is reduced but in Kaashmora the story has been enhanced because of Karthi’s spectacular performance. It was not an easy role,” Gokul says.

Nayanthara plays the lead opposite Karthi as Princess Rathnamahadevi. Sri Divya plays a PhD student researching black magic.

The film was shot in Chennai on sets by art director Rajeevan.

“We used a 360-degree omnidirectional camera rig for a particular sequence. It’s a first in Indian cinema,” says Gokul.

Omnidirectional cameras are important in areas where large visual field coverage is needed, such as in panoramic photography.

The VFX effects for Kaashmora were done by 25 Indian companies.

“Don’t compare Kaashmora to Baahubali. That was an epic film,” says Gokul, an admirer of that film’s director Rajamouli.

Music is by Santosh Narayanan and Om Prakash is the cinematographer. Kaashmora is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures.
