Not many actresses would make a movie debut playing an older woman.

But new find Arundhati Nair is not complaining. The commerce graduate from Trivandrum, Kerala, is excited and nervous on the eve of the release of her first film, Saithan.

“Since my school days, I have dreamt of this day. I wanted to do at least one film and now it’s happening,” says Nair, who got the role by auditioning.

She plays Aishwarya, the onscreen wife of Vijay Antony, in the psychological thriller directed by Pradeep Krishnamurthy.

“Aishwarya is unlike me. She is a mature woman and the challenge lay in understanding her emotions and portraying them,” Nair said.

For someone who grew up admiring actresses Urvashi, Shobana and Revathy, Nair remembers being a shy girl who never performed on stage.

Saithan brought out the hidden actor in her and is the stepping stone to another Tamil film. She will begin work with director Mithran Jawahar on his next film, featuring four heroines.
