The supreme court on Monday rejected a plea seeking the cancellation of bail given to Rahul Raj Singh, accused of abetting the suicide of actress Pratyusha Banerjee.
The plea for the bail cancellation was submitted by Banerjee’s mother, Soma Banerjee.
The apex court, comprising Justice P.C. Ghosh and Justice Amitava Roy, dismissed the plea because a bench did not think that he should be charged with murder.
The court was told that only interrogation could establish the charge of murder, the bench, not impressed by the plea, asked if the Maharashtra police had filed any application challenging the granting of bail.
The court dismissed the plea by Soma as the bench was told that the Maharashtra police did not contest the bail given to Raj Singh by the state high court.
