Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif says cinema has given her purpose in life.

The actress, who was on Monday honoured with the ‘Smita Patil Memorial award’ for her contribution to Hindi cinema, promised to keep her sincerity towards her work intact.

“I believe the most important thing in art is truth. And I can promise that my attempt is sincere and truthful to the craft, which has largely given me my purpose in life over the last few years,” said Kaif.

The Bollywood star said it was “overwhelming” for her to be given the recognition.

The 33-year-old Baar Baar Dekho actress said the award honours the memory of Smita Pital, who has inspired several actresses.

“This award honours the memory of one of the greatest and accomplished actress, whose roles served as an inspiration to the lives of millions of women.

“The one thing I do hope is I can continue to make the audience, who has given so much love and support over the last few years, proud of me and to deserve their love and support as they have given me.”

Kaif, who was presented the award by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, said she accepts the honour on “behalf of every women who seeks to excel in her field of work.”

“I believe the world of cinema, not only Indian cinema, is often called a man’s world. It is changing but the change is slow. So I believe it is a matter of great pride that we have an award that acknowledges and recognises the contribution of women to cinema.”

Kaif’s award was part of the annual Priyadarshini Academy Global Awards.
