Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh wants to sport a classic, simple look for his wedding and his soon-to-be wife, actress Geeta Basra, has opted for a traditional look.

Singh will tie the knot with his long-time girlfriend, Basra, on October 29 in Jalandhar in the north Indian state of Punjab.

Their wedding outfits are being styled by designer Archana Kochhar. “Geeta wanted an extremely traditional look for all the important occasions, so we decided to go for lehngas, attached dupatta and a crop-top blouse with an Indian work on it. Geeta was specific about her colours. Harbhajan’s brief was classic and simple,” Kochhar said.

“The wedding lehnga will be in [a] traditional red-and-gold combination accessorised by a nath [nose pin], a matha patti [head band] and a tikka [hair piece] with a beautiful head dupatta to complete the ensemble. The reception lehnga will be in electric blue colour with mirror work and sequins,” she said.

“An off-white self-on-self embroidered sherwani with an ornate red sword is designed for Harbhajan Singh, who very keenly took part in the selection of his outfits. For the Gurudwara, he will sport an achkan with breeches or churidaar, and a turban,” Kochhar said.

Narayan Jewellers Ketan and Jatin Chokshi of Vadodara are designing the jewellery.

The wedding celebrations will be spread over five days, with ceremonies such as mehendi, sangeet, pheras and reception, which will take place in Delhi on November 1.

The reception is likely to be attended by Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli besides other Bollywood celebrities.
