There’s a new way to watch Indian movies online, all for the price of a shawarma.

Reliance Entertainment on Monday launched a digital movie platform with a library of more than 2,000 Indian movie titles. Subscribers will have to pay Dh7.29 a month to get access to films in nine languages including Hindi (Haider, Rang De Basanti), Malayalam (Bharatham, Chandralekha, Godfather), Tamil and Gujarati.

“We focus only on Indian content. Our objective is to provide good quality HD entertainment at a very economical price,” said Amit Khanduja, CEO of Reliance Entertainment Digital, in an interview with Gulf News tabloid!.

“Recently, Baahubali became a huge phenomenon, but lots of people have not watched the first part. But we have it online now so that the whole family can watch it,” he added.

There’s also a focus on films featuring Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty.

“We want to provide Indian movies on demand as early and as cheap as possible,” said Khanduja, adding that such platforms also put a lid on piracy and bad quality films being streamed.

Films by Karan Johar’s Dharma, Disney, Viacom, Phantom, Telegu One and Rajshri are a part of their library. Plus, Indian films that didn’t get a theatrical release in the UAE will also be showcased.

Once subscribed, five users can use the same account on multiple devices including tablets, smartphones and smart TVs.
