Amitabh Bachchan is working on videos for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) and the Consul General of India in Brazil.

The actor wrote on his blog: “Drafting and working on video bytes for Swachch Bharat and the Consul General of India in Brazil, for an ongoing Festival of India, cementing further the bonds of friendship that have existed for the past 70 years.”

The 74-year-old Piku star added: “And inviting articles to be written on the Swachch Bharat campaign or a short two-three minutes film of the issues of cleanliness in the country ... Prizes and gifts forthcoming.”

Big B, as the Indian icon is popularly known, feels that communication has come a long way.

“Blessed by the speed of communication ... by the rapidity of conveyance ... and blessed by the ease with which it can all be accomplished and dispatched,” he added.

The thespian also wrote on his Twitter about late veteran actor Om Puri and the film Partition: 1947, directed by Gurinder Chadha.

“An Om Puri Foundation film ... being promoted by his son, Ishaan ... A ‘buddy’ from long years!” he tweeted.

Partition: 1947, or Viceroy’s House, tells the story of India’s partition from Pakistan. It also stars Huma Qureshi, Manish Dayal, Denzil Smith, Huge Bonneville and Gillian Anderson.

Bachchan i9s also partnering up with actor Chiranjeevi for the upcoming multi-lingual historic drama Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, based on the life of a popular freedom fighter from Kurnool.

“Amitji is officially on board. He plays a pivotal role but nothing more can be said about his character at this moment,” said a source from the film’s unit.

Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, to be directed by Surender Reddy, was officially launched in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The source confirmed that Nayanthara has been finalised as the leading lady.

Talking about the rest of the cast, the source added: “Contrary to rumours, Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi is not part of the project. He wasn’t even approached in the first place. Kannada actor Sudeep is being considered but he is yet to officially sign on the dotted line.”

Asked if A.R. Rahman will be composing the music, the source said: “He is yet to sign the project. We have a few more options and we are still figuring out things.”

The title logo and motion poster of the film will be released on August 22, on Chiranjeevi’s birthday.

In the film, Chiranjeevi will sport a moustache.

In June, Chiranjeevi’s look for the film went viral when he attended a special memorial meet for late Telugu filmmaker Dasari Narayana Rao, who passed away earlier this year.

Tipped to be made on a budget of more than Rs1.5 billion (Dh85 million), the film will be made in Telugu, Hindi and Kannada.
