Actor Anupam Kher will be awarded a Kala Ratan Award by the vice-President of India, Mohammad Hamid Ansari.

“I joined Indian theatre, Panjab University in 1974. Happy and proud to share, today I get Kala Ratan Award by Honourable Vice-president of India. Jai Ho,” Kher tweeted on Saturday.

The 61-year-old actor has appeared in a variety of films and many plays. Kher has also appeared in acclaimed international films such as the 2002 Golden Globe-nominated Bend It Like Beckham, Lust, Caution and Silver Linings Playbook.

Kher has been honoured with the Padma Shri in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016 for his contribution in the field of cinema and arts.

He will next be seen in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which also stars Akshay Kumar and Dum Laga Ke Haisha’s Bhumi Pednekar.
