We all know how Bollywood tracks have always enjoyed a cult status at Pakistani weddings. But recently, Pakistani film songs have also begun to feature on DJ sets. The trend started with Balle Balle, from 2015’s blockbuster Bin Roye, which was played on repeat at weddings, with girls trying to ape actress Mahira Khan’s steps.

This peaked with the following year’s Shakkar Wandan (from Ho Mann Jahan, another Khan film).

In between, we had a brief affair with Tutti Fruiti (Karachi Se Lahore) and Selfian (Wrong No).

This wedding season has already kicked off with a peppy wedding and club song from the upcoming Pakistani film Parchi. Titled Billo Hai, the track is sung by Herbie, the lead vocalist of popular UK-based bhangra band Sahara. The song has picked up fast, also because of it fuses a refrain from Billo Nee Tera Lal Ghagra, which is still a rage five years after it first released.

The video of Billo Hai is also climbing up the music charts, having already gained over a million views on YouTube. It shows Parchi’s leading lady Hareem Farooq dancing with swag, while her suitors — Ali Rehman Khan, Usman Muzaffar, and Ahmad Ali Akbar — look on, dazed. It’s a colourful video, choreographed by actor Osman Khalid Butt. The film, directed by Azfar Jafri and produced jointly by Imran Raza Kazmi and Farooq, is an ARY presentation, and is due out on January 5, 2018.
