For the past few years, Sonali Kulkarni has been making her presence felt in regional cinema and the actress says she is enjoying her time doing films in languages other than Hindi.

The 40-year-old actress said that when it comes to her career she has always taken chances, whether it was playing a tree in her debut film Cheluvi, directed by Girish Karnad, or playing a mother to Hrithik Roshan’s character in Mission Kashmir.

“I have always gambled when it comes to my career. I feel pretty liberated as an actor... it gives me huge amount of freedom.

“I [am about the] performance and nothing else. The last few years have been a little more [involved] with regional cinema. It makes me proud that all the films have done well. So, it is not like I am not focused on my career. The choices have been scattered but I am enjoying my journey,” Kulkarni said on the sidelines of Lakme Fashion Week.

The actress’ 2014 Marathi film Dr Prakash Baba Amte was a biopic about Prakash Baba Amte, the son of the social worker Baba Amte, and his wife Mandakini Amte. Kulkarni said that she is very happy that the Hindi version of the film will soon release in India.

“I am very happy that the film was such a roaring success. It was one of the top grossers in Marathi and got the highest rating till date for a TV premiere. My role in the film was highly praised and it gave me a huge amount of satisfaction. So, I am waiting for the Hindi version to release soon,” she said.

The Singham actress is also actively involved in theatre work and has been busy producing and acting in plays.
