Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur denies targeting Bollywood actor Aamir Khan with his recent tweets about the “problem with fame”.

Khan recently faced backlash for his comments about religious intolerance in India.

Kapur tweeted earlier this week: “Lessons of Life: Problem with fame is you now constantly need fame to prove your worth to yourself. A child constantly crying out for attention.”

One Twitter user replied: “Wise person like @shekharkapur should have watched complete interview of @aamir_khan! Sad!”

Kapur said: “Nothing I say has to do with others’ lives. My tweets are lessons of life to myself, not others... my own experiences.”

In another tweet, the filmmaker shared that for culture to flourish, it “must grow and absorb conflicts inherent in change or it becomes like a river that ceases to flow and begins to fester”.

He also tweeted that “40 per cent [of] Indians live desperate, oppressive lives. In poverty... no sanitation, water, food, dignity etc. Wonder how they feel about #Intolerance”.
