Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor may have been keeping quiet about his upcoming marriage to Mira Rajput, but he’s been completely involved in the wedding preparations, including deciding on the invitation design.

The Haider star, 34, will marry his 21-year-old fiancee in Gurgaon on July 7, according to his wedding invitation that surfaced online last week.

Designer Ravish Kapoor, who is behind the turquoise and cream invite, said the colour combination, detailing and gifts accompanying the card were Kapoor’s choice.

“The credit for colour combination goes to Shahid as he was very particular about colours. From the peacock logo to the font, everything was chosen by Shahid.

“Initially it was his family who were involved but when the sample was shown to Shahid, he got involved regarding the changes, the colour combination, what gifts to go with it,” Ravish said.

The invitation, along with gifts, was packed like a box of tea as Kapoor’s actor father Pankaj Kapur is a tea lover.

“It is a special blend. It has tea and honey,” said the designer, whose has previously worked with Shilpa Shetty and Hrithik Roshan.

The traditional golden colour is missing from the invite and Ravish said it was Kapoor’s decision to have an understated card.

The card maker said that around 500 guests have been invited for the wedding as well as the reception.

There will be a separate invitation card for the wedding reception, which is expected to be attended by Bollywood A-listers.

“I can’t reveal about that right now. The reception will take place a few days after the wedding,” he said.

Meanwhile, guests began arriving on Monday at the Trident Hotel in Gurgaon for the wedding on Tuesday. 50 rooms have reportedly been booked including the grand Presidential Suite.

The actor has just wrapped up his initial shoot for reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, which he is joining as a judge. He will return to the shoot only after his wedding reception, according to a source.

From Gurgaon on Monday, photographs surfaced online of the celebrity groom’s father, veteran actor Pankaj Kapur — looking cool and casual in a pair of jeans and white shirt with a blue cap — and Shahid’s step-mother Supriya Pathak in a simple suit with a gajra in her hand, entering the hotel.

The Presidential Suite, a luxury two-bedroom residence, spread across a vast 5,300 sq ft, is adorned with original modern art, features an Italian marble fireplace and includes a dining room, study, pantry, gym/yoga room and an outdoor pool, according to the official website of The Oberoi. According to a source, it costs as much as over Rs600,000 (Dh34,764) plus taxes per night.

For a function, the Grand Ballroom of The Oberoi has been booked. Reports indicate that the nuptials will take place at a Chhatarpur farm, followed by an after-party at the hotel’s ballroom, which can accomodate around 500 people.

According to a source close to the Jab We Met and Vivah actor, the function is planned as a “small gathering with no big celebrities”.

“Only very close family and friends of the couple will be attending the wedding. A wedding reception in Mumbai on July 12 will be a big grand affair with Bollywood celebrities in attendance,” the source said.

The invitation reads: “No gifts please. Blessings only.”

For the outfits, designer Kunal Rawal, a close friend of Shahid, has designed for the groom, while designer Anamika Khanna is said to have created the wedding dress for Mira.
