Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan on Saturday refused to be pulled into any political controversy and declared that he would stick to safe subjects during interviews. He was asked to voice his thoughts on US Republican presidential candidate and business tycoon Donald Trump’s recent remarks against Muslims.

“I have stopped making political comments, darling. I get into trouble, so it’s sad but true,” said Khan at a press conference at The Oberoi hotel in Dubai on Saturday. However, the leading man from Dilwale, which releases in the UAE on December 17, had no reservations when it came to all things vanilla. His idea of a perfect woman, for instance. “It’s demeaning and belittling to other women when we talk about the idea of a perfect woman. The idea that a woman should [be] six-feet tall, or curvy, or that she should be smart or talk a certain way isn’t right. All women are beautiful. Such talk of perfect women should be left to fashion magazines,” said Khan. As soon as those words were out, cheers erupted in the room.

Khan, often described as the king of Bollywood romance, has won legions of fans across the globe for roles that show him as a passionate lover (think Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Om Shanti Om).

“For me, each and every woman is perfect. The beauty of a woman lies in the fact that they are so diverse,” said Khan.

He was joined by his co-stars Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. They describe Dilwale as a perfect “family film” and not another DDLJ.

“We can’t honestly do that again. Re-creation never works. One of the reasons I agreed to do Dilwale is because it’s a love story from a different angle,” said Kajol. The star duo are reuniting on the big screen after My Name Is Khan in 2010.

So what’s their biggest competition in the UAE on December 17? “Our biggest competition is Star Wars. All credit goes to Phars films for distributing it. It’s a big step for us,” said Khan.
