Bollywood music composer and singer Aadesh Shrivastava, who was battling with cancer, died in Mumbai on Saturday.
His cancer relapsed for the third time, and he was in critical condition for more than 40 days. Shrivastava breathed his last a day after he turned 51.
His brother-in-law and music composer Lalit Pandit, from the Jatin-Lalit duo, confirmed the news.
“Aadesh passed away at 12.30am,” his message read.
The singer, who had fought cancer in 2010, was undergoing treatment in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
Shrivastava composed music for films including Chalte Chalte, Baabul, Baghban, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Raajneeti.
He was married to actress and playback singer Vijayata Pandit. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Pandit had earlier said that despite doctors trying their best to help Shrivastava overcome his illness, the treatment remained ineffective.
Initially, as the news of his illness surfaced in the media, members of the film fraternity such as Lata Mangeshkar and A R Rahman expressed shock and hope for his recovery, and others, including Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, met him at the hospital.
Bachchan posted on his blog: “Aadesh Shrivastava passed away... I lived my music with him... I live without him now... and perhaps my music too”.
Shrivastava will be cremated at Oshiwara Crematorium on Saturday afternoon, his family said.
