Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised citizens wishing to travel to Europe to obtain their visas in advance of their journey in order to spare themselves possible problems at destination airports.

Abdullah Bin Mohammad Bin Butti Al Hamed, the ministry’s Undersecretary, said that Emiratis planning to travel to the Schengen countries , either for medical treatment or tourism, should get their Schengen visa first. He emphasised that the traveller’s first destination in Europe must be the country whose embassy in the UAE has issued the entry permit.

He reminded prospective travellers to always pay special attention to visa requirements whether for the purpose of tourism or treatment, and urged Emirati travellers to log onto the ministry’s website to get the latest updates on visa waiver destinations and travel advice, and to register with the Tawajudi (My Whereabouts) service, through which UAE diplomatic missions abroad can assist them in case they face any emergency.
