Queen Sugar returns to OWN in May with a two-night premiere event to launch its third season.
The Ava DuVernay-created series boasts an all-female directorial team for its third consecutive year, a forerunner in the recent trend to prioritise diversity behind the camera.
Directors participating in the upcoming season include DeMane Davis (Lift), Patricia Cardoso (Real Women Have Curves), Shaz Bennett (Alaska Is a Drag), Maria Govan (Play the Devil) and Lauren Wolkstein (The Strange Ones).
Queen Sugar is centred around the Bordelon family as they struggle to secure their sugarcane farm and protect their legacy, all while navigating their own individual struggles.
Filmmaker Kat Candler (Hellion) serves as the Season 3 showrunner, taking over for Season 2 showrunner Monica Macer.
The third season of Queen Sugar premieres May 29-30.
