Dubai: A four-year-old stray cat is recovering from a slit throat after it was brutally abused and left to die near a boutique in Jumeirah recently.

The animal, now named Cut Neck, was found bleeding profusely from the neck by an animal lover who took her to a vet clinic where it underwent major life saving surgery.

Narges Khouzestan whose timely action helped the feline keep its remaining eight lives recalls the evening.

Recall

“It was around 11.30pm and I was closing my boutique for the day when I heard a cat growling in pain. I followed the direction of the sound and saw this poor animal cowering in fear. It was dark so I couldn’t see what was bothering it so I fetched a torch from my car and shone it on the animal. I was shocked. The cat’s neck had been slashed and it was bleeding heavily,” said Khouzestan.

Since it was well past midnight, Khouzestan had to wait until the following morning to take the cat to Zabeel Veterinary Clinic.

Several tests and a surgery later, the cat survived.

Khouzestan was left with a Dh3,000 bill but it had helped save a life.

“She is a tough cookie to have survived a slit throat. So I named her Cut Neck. She is recovering slowly, but has lost a lot of weight. It will take months before she makes a full recovery,” said Khouzestan

Instances of animal abuse in the UAE show no sign of abating despite a Federal Law which punishes violators with one-year imprisonment and a Dh20,000 fine. “The law is in place, but nobody cares about it. There has to be stricter implementation,” said Khouzestan.
