Dubai: Pet lovers take note - the much-awaited Pet Festival 2015 will be held in Dubai this Friday.

Organisers said the December 11 event, in its fourth year, will be bigger and better with the addition of a host of new activities.

“We have combined many segments of the pet world this year to put up one of the biggest pet events in the UAE,” said Shree Nair of Petme magazine which is organising the festival with SHOWLINEFZE.

Beauty contest

Besides the second international dog show, separate competitions will be held in categories like “dog agility” and “dog grooming”.

A cat beauty contest and a pet and owner fancy dress competition are also on the cards.

Nair said: “The show will feature a trick (funny) horse show and a petting zoo. A tactical demonstration of the UAE Police Dog Squad’s K9 Unit, presented by the Abu Dhabi Police Security Inspection Department is also among the highlights.”

Promising a family day out, the festival has a special kids’ play zone, with a number of stalls selling pet products, food and beverages and handicrafts.

Service organisations, animal welfare groups and pet and veterinary specialists will also be present.

Nair said: “The Pet Festival is an educational and entertaining animal fair designed to raise awareness about animal welfare, pet health, food, fashion, training and other essential areas.”

Nair said the dog competitions will be judged by renowned FCI-approved International All Breeds judges including Ozan Belkis and Ahmet Cem Sutunc from Turkey and Yashodhara Hemchandra from India.

The event will be held at the Rugby Park in Dubai Sports City. Entry is free and between 9 am to 9pm.

The international dog show will go on from 10am to 8pm. Dog owners and groomers can register their dogs at the show administration office at the venue from 11am to 2pm on December 9 and 10. Further details are available on www.petfestival.ae.

Both competing and visiting pets must have valid pet passports.

“The pet passport must show all current vaccinations required under UAE law and the pet must be in reasonably good health. Any pets not meeting these criteria will be refused entry to the show even if they are pre-registered online,” said Nair.
