Dubai: A Tomb Raider reboot is hitting cinemas next year, 14 years after Angelina Jolie thrilled moviegoers as the headstrong Lara Croft, and on Wednesday fans just got a glimpse of what to expect.

The trailer released by Warner Brothers revealed with one big change: Alicia Vikander has stepped in Jolie's shoes as Croft.

In the reboot, Oscar-winning Vikander plays the daughter of a missing adventurer who leaves her life as a college student to head to the island where her father disappeared.

"I think I know where my dad went," Croft says in the scene, pointing at at area on the map just off the Philippine coast: the Devil's Sea.

Croft's outfit and the setting in the 2018 movie are based on the 2013 and 2015 games, Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

The film also stars Dominic West, Walton Goggins and Daniel Wu.
