Calling all actor hopefuls: an audition call for a role in Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s film Uncle: My Dad’s Friend will be held in Dubai on June 17.

The hunt is on for a young woman, who can play a college student convincingly and match steps with the award-winning actor (no pressure).

“We want a new face between the age of 16 and 19. She will be acting alongside Mammootty in a pivotal role. It’s for an important role in the film,” said Nishaa Joseph from Whiz Movies, who is spearheading the audition which will begin at 10am and end at 4pm.

The candidate should ideally be able to speak Malayalam fluently since the role is dialogue-heavy and isn’t a mere ornament. The auditions will be held at the Whiz Media Studio in Karama.

Directed by Gireesh Damodar, the screenplay is written by acclaimed actor-director Joy Mathew.

Both of them will be present during the casting call in the UAE.

Mathew is known for his hard-hitting films including Shutter, a film that chronicled events that took place in Kozhikode in two days, and Amma Ariyan.

Once the candidates are shortlisted in Dubai, the final call for this big-budget production by Abra Films will be made quickly as the filming is expected to begin in Kerala with Mammootty next month, added Joseph.

While the casting call for the Mammootty film is specific, Jospeh’s company Whiz Media is also looking for actors between the ages of 20 and 50 for a UAE-based television series in Malayalam. The series, that focuses on Dubai diaries of people living in the UAE, will be shot in the UAE entirely and all the actors will be chose from the UAE. It’s a home-grown production and will have actors hand-picked from this region. The casting call for this television series will begin tomorrow on June 15.
