Professor Albus Dumbledore puts another of his magic students up to an impossible task in the first teaser for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Our sympathies, Harry Potter. You were not the first.

Released on Tuesday, the film’s new trailer takes Muggles and no-majs back to the wizarding world’s Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where young Dumbledore (Jude Law in the Harry Potter prequels) enlists alumnus Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to take down the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).

“If you’ve ever had the pleasure to teach him, you’d know Newt is not a great follower of orders,” Dumbledore says to those accusing the enigmatic educator of doing his bidding.

Grindelwald, Dumbledore’s former flame whose romance will apparently not to be named in the upcoming film, escaped custody at the end of 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and endeavours to raise pure-blood wizards to rule non-magical beings.

Newt sets off for Paris and recruits a few familiar faces for the dangerous adventure: his diminutive stick-bug sidekick, Pickett; sister-witches Tina (Katherine Waterston) and Queenie (Alison Sudol); wizard Credence (Ezra Miller); and no-maj baker Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler). The streets of London, a French circus, mystical maps and scads of spells also take shape in the footage.

Glimpses of Zoe Kravitz as Leta Lestrange, Callum Turner as Newt’s brother Theseus and Depp as Grindelwald also feature in the trailer — but still no hints as to Jessica Williams’ unspecified role.

Director David Yates returns to the helm for the second film in Warner Bros.’ planned five-film franchise. Harry Potter scribe JK Rowling wrote the screenplay and serves as a producer along with David Heyman.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is scheduled for worldwide release on November 16.
