Brad Pitt’s latest movie, War Machine, filmed for 22 days in Abu Dhabi at the end of 2015, and will arrive on Netflix on May 26. Exclusive images have been circulated by twofour54, the UAE-based organisation that facilitated the local shoot.

War Machine is a satirical comedy primarily based on the bestselling book The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan, written by the late journalist Michael Hastings.

The film chronicles the fall from grace of a cocksure four-star general taken down by a damning expose.

War Machine filmed in 20 locations around the UAE. The capital city was dressed up as a fictional American embassy in Kabul. Some scenes shot at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, as well as remote desert areas and in the neighbouring emirate Ras Al Khaimah.

Gulf News reported that Pitt arrived in October to begin filming on the project.

The film was produced by Netflix and Pitt’s production company Plan B. It benefited from Abu Dhabi Film Commission’s 30 per cent rebate. Stars include Anthony Michael Hall, Will Poulter and Topher Grace.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Furious 7 are two other films that have shot in Abu Dhabi in recent years.
