The 13th Dubai International Film Festival (Diff) got a shot of Bollywood glamour on the evening of December 8 as actors Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor took over the red carpet for the world premiere of their romantic film Befikre.

Chants of ‘Ranveer!’ echoed across the red carpet as the actor was given a rockstar welcome by his fans who screamed and shrieked his name. The more they screamed, the more he was drawn to them as he patiently obliged to selfie and hug requests. He kept oscillating between the fan pit and the press area. Each sentence to the waiting journalists was punctuated by him running to his fans for a selfie. The mood was euphoric and nobody could dampen the spirit of the Befikre duo.

Singh and Kapoor even pretended to kiss by puckering their lips, much to the excitement of their fans. Some fans even gave Kapoor a goodie bag as a gift.

“These fans aremy biggest strength. We live for this,” Singh said.

Asked if he was worried about the fate of the film, he said: “Why worry? I’m befikre (carefree). Never judge. Be happy.”

Befikre, a romantic comedy directed by Aditya Chopra, is set in France and chronicles the European adventure of Shyra and Dharam.

“There’s more to the film than the smooches. I don’t know why they shot the trailer that way. It’s a sweet and adorable story,” Singh said earlier in the day during an interview.

It was Singh’s third time at Diff and Kapoor’s first time.

“It’s amazing that we are premiering it in Dubai. I would love to hear about the reactions of people from different parts of the world. And, it’s one of my favourite cities,” said Kapoor. “I can’t wait for people from various cultures to see Befikre.”

The two spent their afternoon promoting the film heavily. Singh wore a blue blazer and blue pants paired with black and white chevron print tie by Dubai designer Varoin Marwah. He completed the look with a silver and blue metallic, octagonal mirrored sunglasses. His co-star wore something more sedate with a white dress. But Singh promised to shock us even more. He lived up to his claim on Thursday night. He almost stole the thunder from Kapoor with his adventurous (flashy, attention-seeking) dressing style.

“I am going to wear something more fancy. I want to be the belle of the ball... The glasses that I am wearing was given to me by Akshay Kumar. I had lost them during one of his martial art contests in Surat. But weeks later he got this for me. No wonder he is a superstar, ” said Singh.
