Dubai: A 4-door sports car? Well, that's what Nissan calls its 2016 Maxima, which made its global debut at the recent New York International Auto Show.

The new model features a 300-horsepower 3.5-liter V6, with lighter yet more rigid chassis, which Nissan says brings "sports car-like acceleration and handling to the large sedan segment".

The new Maxima is set to arrive in US showrooms with a starting price of $32,410. There is yet no date for its launch in the region.

Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn said the new Maxima "looks like nothing else on the road today and drives like nothing in the segment".

Design-wise, the new Maxima takes on Nissan's new design language with a V-Motion front end and signature boomerang lights. It also has kick-up C-pillars and a floating roof appearance.

Inside, Maxima has premium interiors, with a driver's cockpit equipped like a luxury vehicle.

What's under the bonnet? An Xtronic transmission featuring a wider ratio range that allows for stronger acceleration from a standing start and a D-Step shifting logic that provides rapid shifts at high throttle openings.

This car's tech include standard NissanConnectSM with navigation. There's an 8-inch touch-screen display, along with satellite radio and travel link applications that connect to the internet.

The NissanConnect system is paired with a standard 7-inch Advanced Drive Assist Display within the instrument cluster. There is also a rear view monitor and a remote engine start.

Safety and driving aids include predictive forward collision warning, intelligent cruise control, forward emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot warning. These features are available on Maxima SL, SR and Platinum grades.

If you were feeling drowsy or inattentive behind the wheel, the Maxima Platinum offers a driver attention alert system to send you steering inputs.
