Autumn is coming and many of us are already spending our time intensely daydreaming about our next vacation. And if you’re looking for inspiration, there’s a tonne of podcasts that will point you in the direction of your next travel destination. Here are five we’re currently enjoying:

The Amateur Traveler

Chris Christensen possibly does the most comprehensive travel podcast to date, with almost 600 episodes that offer a deep insight into the people, culture, food and practicalities of places from across the globe. For those of you who are struggling to decide on a particular spot, just head to The Amateur Traveler website, where episodes are searchable based on continents and countries, making it simpler to trawl through the extensive list.

Travel Tales Podcast

Hosted by comedian and television presenter Mike Siegel, Travel Tales Podcast is a show that focuses on a new traveller each week and their adventures abroad. The interviews are extremely well-produced, complete with an interesting background score that keeps things fresh. The podcast is less about travel tips and recommendations, and is more of a deep dive into the culture and people of a place, making it an ideal listen for those who want to travel without actually leaving the couch.

Nomadtopia

Whether you want to escape to the beach every winter, go completely nomadic, or improve on your current location-independent lifestyle, Nomadtopia’s Amy helps listeners find the resources, inspiration, and community you’ve been looking for. Head to this podcast for in-depth interviews with people who have successfully shifted to a nomadic lifestyle or are in the process of doing so. I found the episodes on backpacking travel especially helpful here.

What the Pho

British couple Nick and Amy are obsessed with travelling and it shows. What the Pho, a bi-monthly podcast, sees the pair travel the globe while they hold down full-time jobs (it helps that Amy works in radio, which planted the initial seed for podcasting). The places they’ve talked about so far range from India, Nepal and Vietnam to Peru, Romania and Iceland, and they intersperse these exploratory stories with a bunch of practical ‘how to’ episodes that shed light on everything from budgeting to avoiding scammers. Listen to this if you’re looking for a podcast that mixes its useful information with breezy chit-chat, fun games and a lot of tomfoolery.

Two Girls Trippin’

A cancer survivor and a mortician go on several adventures and you’re invited to tag along as they meticulously chart their stories. Lena and Kristina created the Two Girls Trippin’ monthly podcast after Lena recovered from stage four Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. The episodes, while quite US-centric, are also ideal for people from across the world for their focus on DIY travels ideas, nerdy gadget reviews and the many mistakes they recount from their day, weekend and road trip adventures. Some of the more fun episodes include ones on street art hunting, travelling with pets, the dark side of glamping and ways to stay entertained on long trip.
