The English Premier League is in full force as week two draws to a close. And as we spend another season agonising over fantasy football leagues and top four predictions (go Liverpool FC!), let’s also take comfort in the words of sports pundits from across the globe. And if a few favourites are no longer around this 2017 (especially mourning The Inbetweeners’ James Buckley’s Dream Team FC and The Tuesday Club by QI veteran/punching bag Alan Davies), there are still plenty of podcasts to go around, by professional news publications and fans alike. Here are some of our favourites:

5 live’s Football Daily

A mix of long and in-depth podcasts with mixed reactions, BBC 5’s Football Daily is perhaps the most dependable of the lot, if not the most humorous or entertaining. 5 live also host the 606 Football Phone-In where the general public calls in to discuss the weekly events in football, usually around a particular theme or football club.

The WarmUp

An extract of TalkSport Radio in podcast format, The WarmUp covers and discusses predictions for football games coming up on the particular day. (Max Rushden hosts on Sunday, comedians Jon Richardson and Max Forde on Saturday).

Sunday Supplement

The audio version of the television news show, the Sunday Supplement is hosted by popular football writers including Henry Winter, Oliver Holt, Sam Wallace and Martin Samuel. Tune in for the roaring debates and insightful predictions.

Football Ramble

The most fun and lighthearted shows out of this lot, the hosts of The Football Ramble — Marcus, Pete, Jim and Luke — are a well-followed bunch of footie fans. The free weekly podcast (they offer several extra content if you pay up for Acast) should be a mainstay in every EPL-crazy household for their lively banter and passionate round-table discussions on the sport.

Sky Sports Football Podcast

Led by hosts Gary Neville (former Manchester United defender) and Jamie Carragher (former Liverpool FC defender) — the names alone should be enough of a draw — the Monday Night Football podcast by Sky Sports throws up the occasional must-listen episodes, for the key insights and wit these football giants, along with other big-shot guest hosts like Thierry Henry, bring to the podcast.
