Holiday’s over and banging your head against the wall for the binge at the conclusion of 2017 which carried over to 2018’s New Year celebrations won’t shake off the fat clinging on to your waist.

Fortunately for you, we’ve got a great workout that will!

For our opening salvo, Gulf News tabloid! brings you a whole body workout that’s sure to get you back on track after the holiday break.

We contacted a fitness trainers whose credibility is only surpassed by her poise and charisma. Get to know the multifaceted fitness professional Nelita Villezon as she helps usher a fitter you this year with her brand of intense workout.

Who is Nelita?

I’m a model and fitness professional raised in Westchester, California. As a child, I trained martial arts under my father, Erwin Villezon, who was a student of world-renowned martial artist Dan Inosanto. I trained in Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do, Eskrima, Tae Kwon Do, Wushu, Northern Shaolin, and many more. With my background, I was able to compete in the Southwestern Regional Stick Championship and earned a medal in the US Open and also competed in the Junior Olympics. I’ve trained, coached and managed at some of the top gyms in Los Angeles such as Equinox, UFC Gym, Crunch, and 24 Hour Fitness. My experience has led me to become a personal trainer for the Sony Music Group where I trained celebrities such as Becky G, Sophia Black, Karrueche Tran and Olori Swank. With a sponsorship by Reebok Los Angeles, I was appointed as their official Combat Trainer/Fitness Influencer.

In addition to the fitness, I’m also classically trained in the world of dance. My training includes: classical ballet, modern, jazz, belly dance, hip-hop and I’m licensed in Zumba fitness. I’m represented by the prestigious NTA Talent Agency of Los Angeles and have been in several national brand campaigns, commercials and magazine covers.

My passion is driven by diversity in fitness and in a society where women of colour are not so predominant. I have my own signature brand Viebrant Athletics and a charity that is near and dear to my heart called The Rooftop Project, which benefits impoverish families in the Philippines.

What’s your workout about?

It’s an MMA-inspired Hiit [High Intensity Interval Training] workout specifically aimed at blasting away the extra holiday weight.

What’s your advice for people wanting to get fit this year?

My advice for 2018 is to just start something. Usually at the top of the year people make resolutions or huge goals that are at times unrealistic. The normal pattern is to start out strong and ultimately it dissolves just a few months or even weeks into the New Year. Rather than set yourself up for failure, start the New Year off by simply starting. Goals are a great thing to have, but begin with smaller goals then build your way up. Don’t be too hard on yourself and count every small accomplishment. It’s hard these days because we are overwhelmed by social media and advertising that pressure us into feeling we need to look and be in a certain place now. When in reality, fitness and health is very personal. This is why the motto of my company is Be Viebrant. A play on two words meaning being the best you that you can be and living life with vigour. Be Viebrant in 2018!

HOLIDAY GUT BUSTER by Nelita

Perform the following exercises.

1. 1-2 blast
2. Power knees
3. Jumping jack blast
4. V-ups
5. Speed kicks
6. Kick outs
7. Frog push backs

Each exercise is done for one minute followed by a 30 second rest period before the next exercise. Doing all seven exercises completes one round. Do three rounds (or five, depending on your fitness level) of all exercises for a 30-minute workout total. Repeat this whole body workout three to four times a week or use this to supplement your existing programme.
